We are currently working on launching a social media network for a golf school in Holland.
The reason why this Golf school wanted its own online community was purely for brand building and long term revenue generation.
Each golf course in Holland will have a special page on this network advertising its services, (via pictures videos, pricelists and their own webstore with special deals.)
The golf school already has 3,000 students on its Email list. Each student will be invited to this network to join free and meet with each other, organise online groups and just to generally share their passion around golf. These members can login using their existing Facebook account and invite their friends just like on Facebook. Nowdays many communities have their own online community for swimming, running, bookreading etc… It is where like minded people meet.
To provide a successful social experience (in this and probably all examples) everyone needs to be involved in the process. The school, the golf courses and the golf players. And of course, everyone is selling something to the other. Even the players sell their used outgrown golfing kit to other players on the network. This is one example to use social media for the golf community.
